-- **Review of a 2007 V-Strom 650 --
I've owned my 650DL for two years, it's an 07, first year with ABS brakes. I learned to ride when I was a teenager and now at 53 I've owned about 15 motorbikes and ridden several more. I like sportbikes, Touring bikes, Sport touring, dualsport, enduros and dirtbikes. This is the best bike I ever owned. The riding position is comfortable and the seat is pretty good, the head lights are excellent, the fuel consumption is low and the tank is large, it gives over 300 mi. range. The transmission is a six speed and at about 5000Rpm it cruises at 70Mph. I find the bike a bit large, bulky and a bit heavy however once in motion the weight seems to disappear and the handling is nimble and agile. The suspension is very good. I dislike going on the dirt with it, mostly because the fairing is loud and I don't want to get it all loose and rattling. I have a DRZ and a DR for the dirt, besides, this bike is too heavy for off road riding and the plastic is rigid and would crack if I dropped it. I went on a few long trips that lasted all day and some went into the night. I really enjoyed them, never did I get sore and unconfortable. The only improvement I had to do was getting a different wind screen because the original wind screen makes turbulance around the helmet and it's quite annoying. I bought a Givi and that was an improvement, however I later got an MRA windscreen from Germany with an air spoiler at the top which makes a laminar flow blow right over your head and eliminates the turbulance. What a great wind screen! It solved that problem.
Upgrades/Accessories
There are aftermarket side bags and trunks of all brands. I got a center stand and hand protectors from Suzuki and of course my MRA windscreen.
