2007 Kawasaki Vulcan® 1600 Classic Motorcycles - 5000 mile trip from NH to TX & back

New rider,60 years old. Bought a Suzuki 800 C50, put 3000 miles on it & traded for an '08 1600 Vulcan Nomad with 3000 miles. Took it to TX in some bad weather & back in rain, wind & fog. The Nomad was the right choice. Very reliable, good breaks, suspension and easy handling with large, dry saddlebags. It has the power necessary to merge and perform lane changes on the highway. Even with the windshield & Saddleman mounted on it the bike did well in most winds. A bit thirsty though, 38 mpg aver. & 160 mile range before looking for gas. It's the right choice for long trips and fun locally. Crash bars are handy for 5 mph drops (twice, ooops) as they protect all but the mirrors.

Upgrades/Accessories

Kuryakyn grips with throttle bosses L & R. L side for a palm rest @ 3 o'clock, R side is active throttle control set @ 10 o'clock for comfortable cruising. Breakaway throttle lock ($175) worth the installation hassle. Both contributed to a comfortable ride. OEM lightbar from Kawasaki needed machining to hide light wiring but works well. This year getting more rear lighting, LEDs and doing something about the seatthat starts hurting after 4 hours.
