Yamaha has unveiled the latest addition to its 2014 line-up – a new and improved Super Tenere and Super Tenere ES. First introduced in the U.S. in 2012, Yamaha listened to its customers and made some changes. Namely, they sought to improve its functionality, increase rider comfort, and also make some subtle styling changes.

Exterior enhancements include LED-style turn signals and a multi-function meter that is claimed to be easier to read and operate. Yamaha also added a navigation mount bar, making it easier for riders to bring along their GPS.
Another added feature is cruise control, joining the already standard ABS and Yamaha’s fly-by-wire YCC-T throttle. The two throttle maps (Drive Mode) were tweaked to have greater disparity between the ‘T’ and ‘S’ settings.
Yamaha also reshaped the windscreen shape for better wind protection and the screen can now be adjusted in four different positions – without the need of a tool. The way the rider interacts with the motorcycle has also been enhanced with the location of the handlebar pulled back 10mm closer to the rider and moved up 10mm.
The 1199cc parallel twin liquid cooled engine gets a slight increase of two horsepower and one and a half ft/lbs of torque. This was done to help give it more get-up-and-go and to make the powerband feel more exciting.
Yamaha’s adventure touring machine continues to employ a wide ratio six-speed transmission to meet the needs of a bike that can go just about anywhere, from your daily commute to dirt roads. It has a six-gallon fuel tank with an estimated fuel mileage of 43 miles per gallon.
It will be available in April in two colors - Team Yamaha Blue and Matte Grey/Matte Black. The MSRP is listed at $15,090.
The Super Tenere ES comes with electronic suspension and heated grips.
Also available this April is a more premium ES model that has all the same features of the base model with some additional upgrades, most notably– electronic suspension. Similar to the set-up fitted on the 2013 FJR1300, the system allows you to electronically adjust suspension with a push of a button. To fulfill the many types of road scenarios it boasts a wide range of adjustments with four pre-lead settings, three damping modes, and seven added damping fine-tuning settings - totaling of 84 levels of adjustment.
Included in the upgraded ES model are heated grips with three settings. It is only available in Matte Grey/Matte Black and its MSRP is listed at $16,190.
